RGP contact lens

What is RGP Contact Lens?

RGP (Rigid Gas Permeable) lenses are more rigid compared to Soft CL. These have some distinct advantages and disadvantages over regular soft CL.

RGP lenses provide better, sharper vision compared to Soft CL. In general these are much safer to wear and have less chances of eye infection. RGP lenses in general last for 1 or more years.
RGP lenses can not be purchased without a trial done at a CL clinic or eye hospital.

RGP lenses are used in many eye conditions where vision is not satisfactory with spectacles and soft CL such as keratoconus, corneal scar, PMD, post corneal transplant etc.

Due to there rigid nature these are less comfortable to wear especially during the initial week.

Types of RGP lenses

Depending on where the lens is placed: Corneal lens, Corneo-scleral lens, Scleral lens.

Almost all of RGP lenses available in the market are having high dk/t materials. Nonetheless a higher dk/t material is better. As dk/t increases the lens pricing also increases.

Which RGP lens is suitable for you?

Each type of RGP has its pros and cons.

Corneal lenses are smallest in size, easy to handle , comparatively more affordable and less comfortable than other RGP lens
