Common FAQ’s
Material: Higher dk/t materials are better for our eyes. Dk/t should be at least 35, so be sure to check it on the contact lens packaging
Proper power: For spectacle power higher than ± 4.00D, contact lens power changes. Spectacle power can be directly converted to CL power, but a CL trial is recommended to get more accurate power for the CL.
Fitting: Although due to the soft nature of CL, most lenses have acceptable fitting for most individuals. A CL fit evaluation is necessary for long-term use, as improper fit will irritate CL insertion, hypoxia in the cornea, etc.
Using high dk/t material , having good hygiene with good fitting CL is key for having safe and comfortable CL wearing experience.
There is accumulation of proteins and lipids from our tears on surface of CL with time, which can cause GPC (giant papillary conjunctivitis) in eyelids. With time dk/t of CL also decreases. Chances of infection due to contamination also increases when using same lens over long period of time.
In such a scenario, immediately discontinue using CL and visit your nearest CL clinic or hospital for evaluation. It can be due to many factors such as damaged CL, solution sensitivity, poor fit, etc.
Every CL user should get there eye’s check at least once a year to ensure there is no complication due to CL use.
It is common for high myopes( individuals with minus power spectacle lens) in there early 40’s – 50’s to experience it due to increased accommodation required in CL compared to spectacle lenses.
For less power CL use is generally not recommended. Main benefit of improved visual clarity is more prominent for high power individuals.
